Syslogd is an implementation of the UNIX program by the same name for the
Mac OS. For those that don't know syslogd (the UNIX name is all lowercase)
is a daemon (background application in Mac terminology) that accepts
messages from other applications and the network, and writes them out to system wide
log files. Using these log files, the system administrator can see the
"state" of the system at any point in time since the system was booted.
Syslogd also supports AppleScript and AppleShare IP 6.x.
Syslogd 2.1 has the following features:
Third party developers can add support for Syslogd very easily. If you are planning on using the services of Syslogd in your application, you MUST visit the Developer Info page. It contains important info on how to use Syslogd from within your app.

System requirements: If you want the latest version of the Thread Manager (2.1.5), it is included in the QuickTime 4 package. QuickTime is also available on many CD-ROM games and shareware collections. If you have Mac OS 8.x, the latest version is included in the System software.Syslogd v1.x is still free. It has nowhere near the features of version 2.x, but supports 68k machines, local application logging and limited AppleScript logging. Download: |
